Count border entries, not stops on your holiday
Draw your route as a line and mark each point where you enter Egypt from another country. That count is more useful than the number of hotels, tours or flight tickets. A long holiday inside Egypt can still involve only one entry, while a short regional holiday can involve two.
For example, flying into Cairo, taking a domestic flight to Luxor and finishing in Hurghada keeps the journey inside Egypt. Flying into Cairo, leaving for Jordan and returning to Cairo adds a return entry. These are planning illustrations, not promises that a particular border crossing or ticket will be accepted.
The official portal offers tourist visas for single or multiple entries. The distinction concerns permission to enter; it does not replace the visa's travel dates, permitted stay or any passport-specific conditions.
Four itineraries and the question to ask
Treat a cruise description carefully. Marketing phrases such as 'Egypt and the Red Sea' do not tell you whether you will leave and re-enter the country. Ask for the named ports, countries, entry dates and the passport checks expected at each stop before choosing your option.
| Planned route | Entry count to consider | Planning decision |
|---|---|---|
| Home → Cairo → Luxor → home | One entry | Consider Single Entry if the tourist route is otherwise eligible. |
| Home → Hurghada → Cairo → home | One entry | A domestic excursion does not require Multiple Entry by itself. |
| Home → Cairo → another country → Cairo → home | Two entries | Check permission for the return; consider Multiple Entry. |
| Cruise with Egyptian calls separated by another country | Depends on the actual border sequence | Confirm the itinerary and immigration arrangements with the operator. |
Compare our application prices with the official route
On this website, the application price is $59 for Single Entry or $149 for Multiple Entry, per applicant. These are this service's prices. The official portal currently lists $30 and $65 respectively for its direct tourist visa route. Do not mistake one price list for the other; compare the route and service you actually intend to purchase.
The difference between our two options is $90 per applicant. For two travellers, that is a $180 difference. This simple calculation can make the itinerary decision clearer: choosing a higher-priced option merely because your holiday has several cities is unnecessary if there is only one entry and Single Entry suits your circumstances.
Equally, saving on the first purchase is not helpful if you overlook a planned return from another country. Settle the route first, then select the product. Review the application's price summary and the refund policy before payment.
Multiple entries do not mean unlimited stay
Separate three questions: how many entries are permitted, when the permission can be used, and how long each authorised stay may last. A Multiple Entry label answers only the first of those questions. Read all the conditions on the issued document before using it for a later journey.
Do not use the number of hotel nights as a replacement for checking visa conditions. Arrival and departure dates, time zones and an overnight flight can make a casual calendar count misleading. Keep a simple dated itinerary and compare it with the actual document.
If plans change after approval, revisit the conditions before booking a new border crossing. An extra regional stop can change the entry count even when your original flight into Egypt and final flight home stay the same. Avoid assuming that an unused part of an itinerary automatically creates a right to re-enter.
What to do when your itinerary is still undecided
List the uncertain parts explicitly. 'Maybe a day trip' is too vague: a day trip to another Egyptian city and a trip across an international border have different implications. Ask the organiser which country you will enter and whether you will need to pass Egyptian immigration again.
If you might return on a separate holiday, note the expected dates. Multiple Entry may be relevant, but the issued validity still needs to cover that return. Do not buy it solely on the assumption that it will cover every future visit.
For work, study, residence or an unusual passport, stop comparing tourist entry options and establish the correct route with the relevant Egyptian authority. A more expensive tourist option does not change the authorised purpose of travel.
Choose once the route is clear
You do not need to turn a straightforward holiday into a complicated visa decision. When the route is clear, the entry count usually becomes clear too. Use the country guides below to check the nationality side of the decision, then begin the application with that itinerary beside you.
- Write down every country in the order you will visit it.
- Mark each arrival into Egypt from outside Egypt.
- Confirm any cruise or border-crossing arrangements that remain unclear.
- Check eligibility using the passport you will carry.
- Select the entry option and inspect the application summary before paying.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Multiple Entry for Cairo and Hurghada?
Travelling between Egyptian cities does not itself add an international entry. A trip entering Egypt once may suit Single Entry, subject to eligibility and the issued visa conditions.
Does Multiple Entry allow an unlimited stay in Egypt?
No. The number of permitted entries, visa validity and permitted stay are separate conditions. Read the issued document before each journey.
What are the prices on this website?
Our application prices are $59 for Single Entry and $149 for Multiple Entry, per applicant. They differ from the direct government portal fees. Review the complete price summary before payment.
Which entry option should I choose for a regional cruise?
Check whether the cruise leaves Egypt and later returns. Obtain the actual port and immigration itinerary from the operator before selecting an entry option.
