Can Australian citizens apply for an Egypt eVisa?

Australian ordinary passport holders can prepare a tourist Egypt eVisa online. A long itinerary through Asia or the Gulf makes the first Egyptian arrival date especially important. Australia's Smartraveller advice is the country-specific reference for travel conditions; a visa approval alone does not establish that every planned route is advisable.

Australian passport, transit stops and the right travel purpose

Separate three questions before starting: which passport enters Egypt, whether the activity is tourism, and whether another country is only a transit point or a separate visit. A connection outside Egypt does not by itself make the Egyptian visa multiple entry. If you are also an Egyptian national or travelling with a non-ordinary document, obtain advice for that document combination. Smartraveller should be consulted alongside Egyptian entry guidance, particularly when a tour includes remote areas or border crossings.

Sydney to Cairo via Doha, then home through Dubai

For an illustrative Sydney–Doha–Cairo itinerary, use the date shown for landing in Cairo, even if the Australian departure date differs. An onward domestic visit to Luxor still stays within the same Egyptian entry. Returning to Australia through Dubai after leaving Egypt does not add a return to Egypt. By contrast, Cairo–Amman–Cairo would. Map the international legs in order before choosing the entry option; the number of flights is not the number of entries.

December–January leave and a longer travel file

If the Egypt visit sits inside an Australian summer holiday with several destinations, check that the passport remains suitable for every leg. Keep each country's permission in a separate folder. Submit early enough to deal with questions while still at home, and ensure your email remains accessible after changing SIM cards or losing access to an Australian SMS number.

Example: time-zone changes in an Australian itinerary

Suppose a booking shows departure from Melbourne on 12 December and arrival in Cairo on 13 December. The intended arrival field should reflect 13 December in Egypt, not the date you leave Australia. These dates are only an example; use the actual confirmed itinerary. Keep a readable copy showing the full route, traveller name and local dates. In the passport scan, remove glare over the expiry and number so those fields can be checked after automatic reading.

A check before applying with a Australian passport

Do not keep only a cloud link to an approval you cannot open without airport Wi-Fi. Store a readable offline copy and the physical passport together. If a flight change shifts the Egyptian arrival, check the approval's date window before assuming a valid document can be used on any later journey.

Prepare your application and travel file

  1. Check the route first. Use the ordinary passport you will carry. The official Egyptian portal lists passport validity of at least six months from arrival. Resolve any nationality-specific conditions before payment.
  2. Prepare a readable biodata page. This form accepts JPG or PNG, up to 500 KB. Keep all edges and the machine-readable lines visible. Manually verify automatically read names, numbers and dates.
  3. Keep dates and addresses consistent. Have your actual Egyptian arrival date, intended departure, itinerary, accommodation address and contact email ready. The form advances between completed sections automatically; review the answers before submitting.
  4. Review the entry product and total. Single Entry is $59 and Multiple Entry is $149 through this service. The stated processing estimate is 7 days. An application receipt is not an approved visa.
  5. Check the issued permission. Save the approval, verify its identity and travel conditions, and print the eVisa. Carry the itinerary and accommodation or other supporting documents appropriate to the visit, as the official portal instructs.

Questions from Australian passport holders

Which arrival date should I use when flying from Australia overnight?

Use the local calendar date of first arrival in Egypt shown on the confirmed flight itinerary. Do not copy the Australian departure date without checking the connection and time-zone change.

Does transiting Doha before Egypt require Multiple Entry?

No Egyptian re-entry occurs merely because you connect in Doha on the way to Cairo. Multiple Entry matters when you leave Egypt and subsequently enter it again within the visa's permitted conditions.

Can I access the visa on my phone after leaving Australia?

Save the approval offline before departure and check that it is legible. Also follow any printout requirement on the issued document and current entry instructions; do not rely on roaming or airport Wi-Fi alone.
